THE MUSE:
Wanda Mae was born November 18th 1933, on the family farm in Corsicana, Texas, to Loyf David and Leona Inmon, also known as Memaw and Pawpaw. She was the youngest of eight children, four boys and four girls, closer in age to her two nieces than her siblings. Raised in a Church of Christ household, she married her first husband at a young age. Wanda was gifted her first child, Angela Leona Vaughn, in December of 1952. After graduating from high school in Dallas in 1954, she and her daughter moved to Southern California with two newlywed friends from high school, looking for a fresh start. Wanda began work at the Hacienda Motor Hotel, a resort destination off the coast of the Pacific Ocean in San Pedro. It is here that she met Robert Dean Sell from Nebraska. After falling deeply in love (and kissing in some bushes), Bob and Wanda were married on March 27th, 1959. America’s cultural decade kicked off with Wanda giving birth to Alicia Dean in April 1960, Robert Dean Jr. in July 1962, and Cynthia Marie in September 1969. Bob and Wanda raised their four children throughout the United States while Bob worked for GTE, a company that focused on telephone operations and publishing telephone directories. He made his life work as a leader in salesmanship after being initially scouted as an artist for their phonebook print ads. Wanda was a devoted cook for her family and many GTE gatherings. She loved interior decorating and creating inviting table settings. During Bob and Wanda’s life together, they lived in Southern California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, Hawaii, and Washington, doubling back to a handful of these states over the decades, eventually retiring in La Conner, Washington. The recipes in this book are a fitting homage to the diverse range of places the Sell family has lived. Angela’s firstborn affectionately nicknamed Bob and Wanda "Nana" and "Pops," and it stuck like a wet noodle. Pops passed away in 2011; they were married for fifty-two years. As of 2024, Nana (pronounced Na-NAW in true southern fashion) was the last remaining Inmon of her siblings. She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
